It appears a legacy security flaw in the Apple WekKit software wasn't patched for the Google Chome release and it now officially the first security vulnerability in the showcase browser

Discovered by security Researcher Aviv Raff he found he could combine two previous known vulnerabilities to create an attack which could result in the launching of executables on the computer directly from the Chrome browser [...]

In the proof-of-concept published, Raff's code demonstrates how a hacker could use social engineering to trick the user ito performing the tasks required to download and install the software on their computer.

Sadly, whilst Apple patched this flaw in Safari 3.2.1 in its July release, it appears the news didn't funnel down to the Google browser development team who are using an older version of the webkit for the developments.

NOTE: This exploit isn't self firing. It relies on social engineering in order to execute. So, to ensure you are safe, READ all the alerts or confirmation dialogues you receive whilst browsing with Google Chrome and if it seems suspicious make sure you don't click "OK" and you should be fine.

Aditya K Sood from Team Evil Fingers is back with a new memory exhaustion based denial of service attack which can be triggered remotely in Chrome

Based in his research the vulnerability is triggered when Carriage Return(\r\n\r\n) is passed as an argument to window.open() function. This makes Google Chrome generate a large number of windows at the same time resulting in Operating System memory exhaustion.

A PoC is available at evilfingers.com.

When it rains it poors and for Google Chrome the hackers are having a field day finding and posting vulnerability after vulnerability. This time it's Silent Crash bug which effectively means the browser crashes without warning.

Discovered by the team over at elhacker.net, this exploit it triggered via an overly long filename being sent down from the server as file attachment to the browser which results in the browsing crashing without any dialogues boxes warning of the pending crash.

Again, like many of the bugs we are seeing, this doesn't make the browser vulnerable to exploitation. Instead it only servers to provide a hinderance to Chrome users.

A DoS Expoilt vulnerability has been discovered in Google Chrome relating to overly long (and possibly invalid) urls in the "src" element for an img tag.

This vulnerability is not self firing and is only fired when the user Right Click's on the broken image and then selects the Inspect Element Option which cuases the crash

The Buffer Overflow vulnerability has been discovered in Google Chrome relating to a boundary error condition when handling the "SaveAs" function.

How this achieved is when saving a web page with an overly long title tag in HTML, a stack-based overflow is generated and it is suggested that it might be possible for attackers to execute arbitrary code on a users system.

So, for now, the best way to protect yourself is to not save web pages with overly long titles.

A Bug has been discovered in Google Chrome that causes the application to crash all tabs when the following string is entered into the address bar ":%" (minus quotes).

Furthermore, this bug can be expanded to work with with minimal user interaction (i.e. mouseover a link) when combined with undefined protocol handler such as "evil:%"

However, according to the developers of Chrome 'this is an unfortunate browser crash, but it shouldn't be exploitable beyond an annoyance'.

Did you know that Google Chrome could be conceived as keylogging your data? Well it could be, but the good news it isn't as bad as it sounds. It's not recording all your keystrokes, it doesn't record all the time and it only runs in Chrome.

How it works is like this. When you begin typing a search term into the Chrome Omnibox it sends the information you have entered up to the Google server where it uses its search technology to generate a set of results based on the supplied data. These results are then pushed back down to the Chrome Browser where they are displayed to the end user below the Omnibox in a drop down list style. This concept is called auto suggest.

The reason the term keylogging has been used is that it turns out the keypress (by the end user) triggers the send action to the Google server and therefore it makes for news if we scare people and say its a keylogger :). So, the next big thing is how do we turn off?

Incognito Mode

If you are using Chrome's Incognito mode then it automatically switches off the auto-suggest feature when the mode is enabled.

Normal Mode

For Normal mode you will need to undertake the following steps to turn of the Auto Suggest feature.

> Open Tools

> Select Options

> Click Basic

> Click Manage

> Open Search Engines

> Deselect the 'Use a suggestion service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar' checkbox.
